v     Why should I be interested in substituting?

o       Districts sometimes hire substitutes as full time employees if they have a proven success record.

o       Subbing is flexible – you work when you want to.

o       It’s an opportunity for a variety of experiences in many buildings and grade levels within the Lamar district.

v     What are the educational requirements to become a substitute in the Lamar schools?  What is the pay rate?

DAILY RATE Certified Teachers, Certified Counselors, Registered Nurses $92.70 Non-certified (bachelor’s degree) $82.40 Non-degreed substitute, Clerks (HS diploma/GED), LVNs (license) $72.10 Crossing guard (per hour) $8.24/hr Cafeteria Monitor (per hour) $7.21/hr ADMINISTRATORS will be paid ½ of their Daily Dock Rate of their last employment, but no less than $150.00 per day. Long Term Assignments 10 + days – same assignment: Certified Teachers and Registered Nurses $149.35 Non-certified bachelor’s degree $108.15 Non-degreed substitutes:           More than 60 college hours           30-59 college hours           Less than 30 college hours $82.40 $77.25 $72.10

v     How do I become a substitute?

o       Step 1:  Complete the online substitute application at: https://secure.lcisd.org/appentry/

o       Step 2 :  Access and complete the New Substitute Paperwork at:

                         http://www.lcisd.org/Departments/HumanResources/NewEmployeePaperwork/

                                You will bring these forms to the first day of orientation!

                 If you have earned college hours you will need to submit official college transcripts.

      If no college hours have been earned, you will need to submit High School Diploma/GED/transcript.

o       Step 3 :  Register for the two day orientation of your choice by calling (832)223-0300.

                                          THIS PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! 

o       Step 4 :  Attend the 1st day of orientation and demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written English to

                   return the second day.

o       Step 5:  Attend the 2nd day of orientation to complete your subbing profile.

o       Step 6 :  After you have successfully completed the two day orientation:

                         You will be required to complete the state-mandated fingerprinting process. 

              Each substitute will be required to pay a fee of approximately $50.00 to be fingerprinted.

o       Step 7:  Register with our telephone system and you're ready to begin subbing!

v     What will I learn at the orientation session?

o       Successful substituting techniques including discipline management, motivation, and individualization.

o       Important highlights from the Substitute Handbook and the Code of Student Conduct.

o       Specific instruction on dress and grooming, computer usage, sexual harassment scenarios, substitute evaluation,

     completion of your profile, how to use our automated substitute system, and safety/crisis management.

v     What do I do if I want to sub a second year?

o       Y ou must complete the Returning Substitute process each year during the summer. Additional information will be

      mailed to you to the address you have on file with the district.
