Students stand with "Rubble and Roll" at the annual Houston Art Car Parade.
Jane Long Elementary represented Lamar CISD with pride as their truck “Rubble and Roll” took to the streets of Houston for the 2019 Houston Art Car Parade.
Jane Long's Art Club Students put their heads together to brainstorm how they could best decorate the truck without a budget. Jane Long fifth grader William Sanchez drafted and submitted the winning design. His winning idea? Water bottles! The truck decorating team, consisting of staff and students, came up with a plan and began collecting water bottles. The bottles were painted and cut into various designs to bring Sanchez’s drawing to life. From the rainbow arch to the hubcaps, everything on the car promoted recycling and taking care of our planet.
Art Teacher Janis Knuckols worked incessantly to help her team bring their vision to fruition. Principal Jill Nehls raved about how proud she was about her school’s entry in the parade and commended Knuckols and her students for all their hard work.
“Our art teacher is over the top passionate and enthusiastic about providing enriching fine arts experiences for children,” said Nehls regarding Knuckols.
“Rubble and Roll” has been invited to participate in the Art Walk in Richmond, TX on May 4.
