We have survived the initial days of our new pickup and drop off changes. I feel everything went fairly smooth the first week. The weather made it a little more difficult with more students being car riders and fewer being walkers and bike riders. I think things will get even smoother as we get used to the routines. I have a few thoughts for the morning drop off that might expedite the crunch time between 7:30-7:45, but would like to see how everything goes in the next week or two.
Our enrollment has increased significantly this week. We have added 8 new students to bring our enrollment to 612 students. This is the first year in a while that we have gone beyond 600 students. There is a possibility that we will need to add at least one new teacher next year to handle the current student growth.
It is official for next year that the elementary school day will be begin at 7:30 am and end at 2:40 pm. The reason for this change is that the legislature passed House Bill 2610 that removes the requirement of 180 days of instruction with language that requires districts to provide at least 75,600 minutes during the school year. The current schedule (7:45-2:40) would be 15 minutes short per day to meet the new requirement. We will be increasing from 415 minutes per day to 430 minutes. The School Board has approved this change and it will go into effect for the 2016-2017 school year. More information about this change will be sent out at a later date. If you have any questions about the change please don’t hesitate to call and ask.
Please don't forget about Read Across America Day next week, March 2. We want our students to "get cozy and read" and we are allowing them to wear school appropriate pajamas to school that day. (t-shirts with pajama pants or nightgowns with sleeves and leggings are acceptable) tank tops and/or shorts will not be allowed
