The health of our 28,000 students and 4,500 employees is important to all of us in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
In light of the understandable concerns surrounding Ebola and the Enterovirus D-68 virus, I want to reassure you there are no reported cases in our area. At this time, major stakeholders in the medical community, including Texas Children’s Hospital, their clinics, local hospitals and physicians are not seeing an increase in symptoms for respiratory or gastric illnesses as compared to any other year.
Your child’s classroom and school meet the strictest guidelines for cleanliness and our nurses are well-trained to identify symptoms relating to these viruses. In fact, our team of District nurses just received another round of updates from County Health officials. The District also complies with the Texas Wellness and Health Services Communicable Diseases Policy (FFAD).
We do need your help in keeping our students healthy. Please keep your child home if he or she is not feeling well and/or exhibits any of the following:
- Temperature is 100° or more;
- Vomiting or has vomited during the night;
- Rash or skin infection other than poison ivy;
- Diarrhea; and
- Any Contagious diseases or infestations – including, but not limited to, scabies, impetigo, conjunctivitis, live lice and varicella.
Students should not return to school unless fever free for more than 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
