One man was arrested Sunday morning after climbing on top of Velasquez Elementary School. A gun was recovered during the arrest and it was confirmed that an unknown number of shots were fired on the roof before law enforcement arrived.
No one was injured and there was minimal property damage.
The man did not enter the building, but Rosenberg Police and the Fort Bend Sheriff's Office did a thorough search of the building as a precaution.
Law enforcement officials called the incident a random act of mischief. They do not believe the suspect was targeting students or the school. Law enforcement will be at Velasquez Elementary tomorrow simply as a precaution and to ease concerns of parents.
Both Rosenberg Police and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office are encouraging parents to send their children to school tomorrow. All area law enforcement agencies will be more visible throughout the County, which is the normal practice for the first week of school.

After discussions with law enforcement we’re confident our campuses are safe and secure. We look forward to welcoming each and every student to Lamar CISD tomorrow.
