The Texas Education Agency awarded 75 Distinction Designations to Lamar CISD as part of the agency’s accountability system. This more than doubles the 37 Distinction Designations earned by Lamar CISD in 2015.

Leading the way are Frost, Long and Ray elementary schools, which earned Distinction Designations in all six categories for which they were eligible.

Austin, Campbell and McNeill elementary schools earned five designations; Jackson Elementary and Reading Junior High earned four designations; Lamar Consolidated High School, Briscoe and Lamar junior high schools, Wertheimer and Ryon middle schools and Dickinson and Velasquez elementary schools earned three designations; George Ranch High School, Navarro Middle School and Beasley and Hubenak elementary schools each earned two designations; and Foster High School and Adolphus, Arredondo, Meyer and Williams elementary schools earned one designation.

Distinction Designations are awarded for achievement in Reading/ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Student Progress, Closing the Performance Gap and Post-Secondary Readiness. Distinction Designations are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade-span and student demographics. The Distinction Designation indicators are typically separate from those used to assign accountability ratings.

Nineteen Lamar CISD schools earned Designations for Closing the Performance Gap; 14 earned Designations for Student Progress, 11 schools earned the Math Designation; 11 earned Designations in Postsecondary Readiness; 10 earned Distinctions in Reading/ELA; and 10 schools earned Distinction Designations in Science.
