Lamar Educational Awards Foundation Hosts Annual Superintendent of the Day

Apr 25, 2024 | Lamar CISD Communications

April 25, 2024Rosenberg, Texas This week, the District’s Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (LEAF) hosted the third annual Superintendent of the Day, and the winner of this once-in-a-lifetime experience was William Frazier, a sixth grader from Wertheimer Middle School.

On April 24, William spent a day in the life of Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens. As his first decree, he issued an executive order to nearly 50,000 students across 48 campuses to dress in 90’s attire and prepare for a dance party.

Superintendent Frazier started the day at his home campus, Wertheimer Middle School, dancing with Principal Toni Scott and peers throughout the halls for his send-off to start his day leading Lamar CISD. The campus spent all week collecting donations and presented William with a surprise check of $1,043.89 to his favorite charity, Hope for Three.

Then, Superintendent Frazier toured the District and was escorted by the Lamar CISD Police Department. He also met K-9's Jumbo and Tigi. The officers gave him an honorary badge, customized uniform, and a VIP tour of a patrol car.

“Today made me happy because people were cheering for me,” Superintendent Frazier said. His favorite part of the experience was meeting new people and feeling celebrated.

As superintendent of the first hypergrowth District in Texas, William spent a large part of his day engaged in activities such as tasting new recipes, writing checks to vendors, and hiring new principals. These activities were curated by representatives from various departments including Teaching and Learning, Child Nutrition, Human Resources, Finance, and Transportation.

“William got to experience a day in the life of our Superintendent and it’s such a rare, enriching opportunity that he will remember for a lifetime,” LEAF Executive Director Kameela Lewis said. “I am grateful for our staff and partners who are always willing to support activities like this and go the extra mile for our students.”

If you are interested in supporting the mission of LEAF, you can make a tax-deductible donation and become a Friend of the Foundation by emailing [email protected].
