Math, CTE departments have new leaders

Two education veterans were named to administrator roles for Lamar CISD. 

Joel Garrett is the new Director of Career and Technical Education for Lamar CISD. 
As CTE Director, Garrett will oversee the District’s various programs that provide real-world, hands-on learning, ranging from auto technology to culinary arts. 

Garrett is a graduate of Texas A&M University and has his master’s from Lamar University. 
He served as an assistant principal at Terry High School in fall semester and has been an administrator and teacher in the Arlington and Mansfield schools.

Katie Marchena-Roldan is Lamar CISD’s new Curriculum and Instructional Specialist for math. She will work with teachers at every grade level, providing curriculum and collaborating on instruction. 

She is a graduate of Luther College in Iowa and has her master’s from the University of Houston-Victoria. 

Prior to becoming Lamar CISD’s math specialist, Marchena-Roldan served as a technology specialist for the District’s elementary and secondary schools. She taught junior high Summer School math in Lamar CISD, as well as a summer pre-kindergarten program at Pink Elementary. 

Marchena-Roldan also taught 1
st and 3rd grades at Frost Elementary.
