Huckman wins BIG at Rodeo Art Auction

Foster High School junior, Mia Huckman shattered the record for the most expensive work of art ever auctioned at the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Huckman's artwork, a painting titled “Partners in Time” was auctioned off for a record $265,000 during the school art auction.

The painting surpassed the then-record of $250,000 for a single piece of artwork by an additional $44,000. 

Three thousand pieces of artwork were submitted by 95 public school districts in Southeast Texas, as well as 54 private schools, and 739 were selected to advance to the next round of judging, including 13 from Lamar CISD. Out of the top 739 pieces, 72 were selected for auction. This is the 12
thtime since 2000 that Lamar CISD has had either a high school Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion in Rodeo Art. The art auction  proceeds totaled $2.1 million.   

In addition to being a visual arts student, Mia is also part of the Falcon Band’s color guard, and she was in this year’s production of The Wiz. She’s a visual arts student of Ms. Monica Arratia at Foster High School, and she is the daughter of Michael & Vickie Huckman.
