Providing fresh food to the students can be a daily challenge for the Lamar CISD Food Services Department.

The department answered the challenge in October 2015 earning the Perfect Peach Award for its efforts to use Texas-grown products in the cafeterias.

Lamar CISD is one of only 67 school districts in Texas to earn the award.

The District receives milk from cows in Stephenville, Como and Hereford; bread products from Houston; citrus from Edinburg and Mission; and zucchini from Fredericksburg.

“Providing nutritious meals to our students is priority,” said Lamar CISD Director of Food Services Matt Antignolo. “And there are no better foods than what is produced in Texas. This award goes to all the hard-working staff in food service.”
