Lamar CISD Virtual Learning Option - Application Opens Aug. 23

Aug 20, 2021 | Community Relations

During the 2021-2022 school year, Lamar CISD will offer a virtual learning option for a limited number of students enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade. This option is provided for families concerned with sending their students to school due to COVID-19.

The application for Lamar CISD’s virtual learning option will open on Monday, Aug. 23 and close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25. Once the application opens, parents can apply for virtual learning through their student’s Skyward Family Access account under the Online Forms section.

Students who apply for virtual learning must commit to an entire semester in the program, or through the end of the second 9 weeks for elementary students.

Students enrolled in virtual learning will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities or clubs on campus. Additionally, students who are not academically successful in the virtual offering will be required to return to on-campus learning.

To be considered for acceptance into the virtual learning program, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have an immuno-compromised household member documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States
  • Be a K-6 student where family is concerned about sending student to school due to COVID-19

Acceptance into the virtual learning option will be announced no later than Friday, Sept. 3, and is based on the availability of appropriate staff. Parents interested in this option are encouraged to apply as soon as the application becomes available on Aug. 23.

Virtual learning will officially begin on Monday, Sept. 13 and will continue for a semester, or longer depending on the status of COVID-19 in our community, as well as the availability of vaccines for students under 12.

Parents are encouraged to send their students to school during the first couple of weeks until the virtual learning program begins. However, the District and campuses will continue to work with our families to ensure students don’t fall behind academically.

As a reminder, this virtual learning option is not intended to serve our immuno-compromised students or students with diagnosed anxiety disorders. We will continue to serve those students separately on a case-by-case basis through homebound services.
