Lamar CISD Surprises Staff with a $500 Retention Stipend

Aug 19, 2024 | Lamar CISD Communications

August 19, 2024 – Rosenberg, Texas – Lamar CISD held its annual Convocation, an event where all district employees celebrate the start of the new school year. This year’s theme is The Urgency of NOW: No Obstacles Whatsoever.

Lamar CISD staff enjoyed student performances, a presentation by special guest Jamie Vollmer, and a Superintendent address by Dr. Roosevelt Nivens.

Toward the end of the event, all staff received a sweet surprise: a retention stipend of $500 for the 2024- 2025 school year.

Earlier this year, during the May Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees emphasized its appreciation for the hard work and dedication of all employees, and unanimously approved the following raises for the 2024- 2025 school year:

• Beginning Teacher Salary: $64,100
o Flat raise of $2,000 for teachers paid according to the Teacher Hiring Schedule (average 3%)

• Raises for all Returning Staff
o 3% of midpoint raise for all other staff

“Money doesn’t fix everything, but it can go a long way,” Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens said. “On behalf of Lamar CISD, we appreciate the support of our Board of Trustees and our Payroll Department for making this happen for our deserving employees.”

The event was held for the first time at the Fort Bend County EpiCenter on August 7, and more than 5,700 district employees attended. The 2023-2024 Principals of the Year, Melton Elementary Principal Laura Haugvoll and Terry High School Principal Dr. Melissia Smith were the emcees.

The Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (LEAF) awarded two deserving schools for creating an innovative learning environment. Gray Elementary and Hutchison Elementary each received $10,000 to fulfill their innovative ideas for the school year.
