FROM THE LCISD ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT (June 2020):
LCISD Athlete and Marching Band Parents,
To support social distancing and assist with the workload of the medical professionals on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UIL Medical Advisory Committee recommended adjusting the regular requirements related to pre-participation physical examinations for the 2020-21 school year only. LCISD has followed the recommendations adopted by the UIL Legislative Council and will be honoring pre-participation physicals for students from the 2019 – 2020 school year for an additional year if they meet the following criteria:
- All student athletes and marching band members must complete an online UIL Medical History Form that is signed by both the student and parent or guardian in Rank One by visiting the parent portal here.
- The Medical History Form will be reviewed by an LCISD Certified Athletic Trainer to check for reoccurring or recent health issues. Any pending issues could require a new physical to be completed prior to clearing the student for participation in the 2020 – 2021 school year.
- All student athletes and marching band members must complete all other required forms in Rank One in order to be cleared for participation.
- Any student who did not complete a pre-participation physical in the 2019 – 2020 school year, will need to complete one prior to being cleared for participation in the 2020 – 2021 school year. Physical forms can be picked up during locker clean out procedures at each campus next week or downloaded here.
Our hope is that by modifying this requirement for the 2020 – 2021 school year, LCISD can help to support social distancing, ease the financial burden on our parents/guardians and lighten the workload of our local medical professionals. Any parent interested in having their child participate in a physical examination as a preventative measure, is encouraged to and our athletic training staff is happy to assist you by providing a list of local clinics and medical professionals who are currently performing physicals in our area. You can find contact information for your child’s athletic trainer by visiting our Sports Medicine home page, here.
The Rank One App is open for next school year and parents are encouraged to begin completing forms as soon as possible to ensure their children are ready when the 2020 – 2021 school year starts. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s coach, band director, athletic training staff or the Athletic or Performing and Visual Arts Offices of LCISD. We are all looking forward to seeing our students back at school doing the things they love just as soon as we can, until then stay well and enjoy your summer!
