Lamar CISD facilitates family engagement in its Pre-K program through six strategic components designed to strengthen partnerships between families, schools, and the community

Lamar CISD creates a safe and respectful environment where families can learn individually and in groups. The district also provides opportunities for continuous participation in family-focused events and leadership development activities.
Examples include:
- Family Engagement Nights designed to encourage learning through play-based activities, with eight events offered throughout the district.
- Resources and training aligned with effective Texas Child Find practices.
- Teacher-student meet-and-greet events at the beginning of the school year.
- Displaying the Lamar CISD Promise to Parents model on campuses.

Lamar CISD builds strategic partnerships with community organizations and agencies to support students and families.
Examples include:
- Collaborating with community partners to present and volunteer at Family Engagement Nights.
- Inviting community organizations to share information about services available to families.

Lamar CISD provides professional learning opportunities for Pre-K teachers, paraprofessionals, and other campus and district staff to support the whole child and family.
Examples include:
- Training educators on strategies that promote family engagement and enhance student learning through state-adopted curriculum resources.
- Professional development focused on culturally diverse, culturally relevant, and culturally responsive family engagement practices.
- Instructional coaching support for Pre-K teachers to strengthen family partnerships.
- Use of the CIRCLE assessment as a progress-monitoring tool and sharing results with families.
- Hiring staff who reflect the diversity of the community.

Lamar CISD gathers feedback from families and uses data to continuously improve family engagement efforts. Evaluation methods include:
- Family Engagement Night surveys.
- Campus surveys.
- Contributions to the District Improvement Plan.
- Contributions to the District Strategic Plan.
- Use of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Parent Engagement Self-Evaluation to assess the Pre-K program.
Eligibility for Pre-Kindergarten
- 4 years old on or before September 1st AND
- Limited English Proficient (a language other than English is the primary language spoken in the home). Students qualifying by language (English Learner Qualifier Pre-K) will be tested to determine placement in the program, or
- Qualification according to the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines. Parents/Guardians must bring proof of income (documentation for at least one month of income). Proof of income can include current check stubs, child support statement of payment, SNAP qualification letter, etc., or
- Homeless, or
- Child of an active U.S. Armed Forces member, or
- Child of a U.S. Armed Forces member that has been injured or killed while on active duty, or
- Child of a Guard and Reserve-Activated/Mobilized uniform member of the TX National Guard-Army or Air Guard of the Activated/Mobilized member of the Reserve components of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard who is a TX resident, or
- Conservatorship of the Dept. of Family and Protective Services in Texas or any other state (past or present), or
- Child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as:
- a peace officer under Section 3106.002, Government Code;
- a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or
- an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code, or
- Child of a primary or secondary classroom teacher who works at a school in the school district.
Registration
Parents/Guardians can register online beginning April 1. Once Lamar CISD campuses resume normal operations, you will need to bring the following documents to your home campus to verify registration:
- Certified birth certificate
- Proof of address such as a utility bill or lease agreement; a fixed utility bill indicating service at a verifiable address within the boundaries of Lamar CISD (natural gas, electricity, or water service). Phone, cable, internet, or satellite services are not considered fixed utilities and cannot be considered.
- Immunization Record
- Proof of income
- Parent ID

Acceptable documentation of earnings (wages and salary) includes:
- Current paycheck stub or
- Current tax return if self-employed or
- Current TANF or SNAP eligibility letter or
- Unemployment, Worker’s Compensation or Disability payment stub
Acceptable documentation for self-employment income includes:
- Business or farming documents, such as ledger books and/or self-issued paycheck stub or
- Last year’s tax return (self-employment)
Acceptable documentation for cash income includes:
- A letter from the employer stating wages paid and frequency

Acceptable documentation for eligibility for Star of Texas Award:
- Resolution (certificate) awarded to an individual serves as proof of eligibility

Students who qualify because they are the child of an active-duty, injured, missing, or deceased member of the United States Armed Forces, including state military forces or reserve components, must have the appropriate documentation on file
Acceptable Documentation
Active-Duty Military Service
One of the following forms of documentation must be provided:

Verification by a district employee of the student's U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) photo identification card. Documentation must include:
- Printed name of the district employee
- Employee signature
- Date of verification

If the student has not been issued a DoD ID card:
- Verification of the military member's DoD photo identification or other DoD-issued documentation showing active-duty status
- Verification of documents establishing the student's relationship to the service member
- Documentation must include the printed name and signature of the district employee, date of verification, and a copy of the documentation showing the student's relationship to the military member
Important: DoD identification cards may not be copied.
Active Members, Mobilized Reservists, or Texas National Guard Members
A statement of service from the installation adjutant general or director of human resources verifying the service member's active-duty status is acceptable. For Texas National Guard members, documentation may also include:
- Documentation from the Texas National Guard Office of the Adjutant General, or
- An official letter from a commander at or above the rank of lieutenant colonel (or commander level in the Navy) confirming active or mobilized status.
Deceased Service Members
Acceptable documentation includes:
- A copy of the death certificate using the appropriate DoD form, or
- A DoD form indicating death as the reason for separation from service
If DoD documentation is unavailable, a memorandum from the casualty assistance office of the nearest casualty area command stating that the service member was killed in action or died while serving is acceptable.
Service Members Wounded or Injured in Combat
Provide a copy of:
- Purple Heart orders, or
- Purple Heart citation.
Service Members Injured While on Active Duty
Acceptable documentation includes:
- Line-of-duty determination documentation, or
- An official letter from a commander at or above the rank of lieutenant colonel (or commander level in the Navy) stating the service member was wounded or injured while serving on active duty
A letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs indicating eligibility for disability compensation is also acceptable.
Missing in Action (MIA)
Documentation verifying that a service member is classified as Missing in Action (MIA) is required.
