Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship

Managing our online presence is a daily commitment to ensuring safety, productivity, and responsible engagement. In Lamar Consolidated ISD, we believe digital citizenship education starts early, and we partner with families to equip students with the tools they need to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.

Below are resources to help families and teachers guide students in developing essential Digital Citizenship skills.

Overview

Students and adults alike rely heavily on digital tools for learning, communication, and staying connected. These experiences help students develop critical thinking skills, media literacy, and an awareness of online interactions.

With many of our students engaging in digital spaces daily, ongoing guidance is essential both at school and at home.

By practicing good digital citizenship, students can create a safer and more positive online experience for themselves and others.

  • Be kind and respectful – Your words online have real impact. Always communicate with kindness and respect, even when you disagree.
  • Avoid digital drama – Conflicts can escalate quickly online. If an issue arises, seek guidance from a trusted adult before it becomes a bigger problem.
  • Protect your privacy – Never share personal information such as your full name, school, address, or other identifying details. Social media platforms can expose more than you realize. Think before you post.
  • Think critically about online content – Not everything you see or read online is true. Always verify information, check for bias, and be cautious of misleading content, marketing tactics, or misinformation. Never share or forward unverified information.
