The following information is provided to help parents understand how the district determines whether or not to hold school or delay opening school on inclement weather days and the notification procedures that are in place. Please note that student and staff safety is our first priority. The decision to cancel school is a very important one and is made only after thorough consideration.
We consult multiple sources before making decisions on closing or delaying school activities, which may include communication with:
County officials
Meteorology experts
Local first responders
Transportation officials
Area school districts
We understand that unexpected schedule changes can create challenges forfamilies. To balance these concerns, we strive to avoid making decisions hastily while still giving you as much notice as possible. If the forecast doesn’t allow for us to make a decision the evening prior, our goal is to finalize decisions with enough time to begin communicating with families and staff by approximately 5:30 AM on the day of the weather event.
In the event of a school closure or delayed start, we will communicate with you in the following ways:
Automated Notifications (for parents/guardians and staff): Phone, email, and/or text messages will be sent to parents/guardians using the contact information provided in Skyward. Please make sure your contact information in Skyward is up to date so you receive all emergency notifications. Staff members will receive notifications based on the information provided to Human Resources.
Website Updates: Barring any major power outage, we will post updates on the district’s website.
Social Media: Information will also be shared on our official social media accounts
News Outlets: Lamar CISD will always communicate with you first regarding inclement weather delays or closings. In addition, the media outlets may receive our information.
