As summer approaches, we all start thinking about activities we can do at home to fight the "Summer Slide" – the annual two-month dip in skills our students experience when not in school. What is one of the best ways to fight the summer slide? Reading, reading, reading!
This summer LCISD Library Services is hosting a summer reading program at all of our elementary campuses. Although most of our libraries will remain physically closed, we want to encourage our students to continue to read and experience new adventures this summer!
To support reading at home, we've developed an engaging digital program through Beanstack – our online reading tracker app available through Classlink. Through this reading program, students are encouraged to earn entries for prizes by reading every day and completing fun, weekly activities. Prizes include books, gift cards, and iPads – all thanks to the Lamar Education Awards Foundation and community sponsors! It’s sure to be an exciting weekly journey that students will not want to miss!
We encourage students to check out the THOUSANDS of books available in MackinVia – our online eBook portal available through Classlink. Many exciting new books are being added to our collection just in time for summer. It's an exciting time to be a part of the LCISD community!
